Australian Fashion Week Heats Up
This week AAFW in Sydney showcased the hottest styles from Australian designers. Designers like Aje, Bec & Bridge, Henne, and many more presented their latest visions for the 2024 season. Aje celebrated its 15th anniversary with its collection, featuring “undone elegance” in its designs. Ruffled skirts with singlet tops and splashes of chiffon and sequins donned the runway.
Bec & Bridge paid homage to the ‘90s with a wide range of skin-baring cut-outs, bandeaus, sparkly maxi skirts, and blue, lime, and coral fabric injections. The David Jones First Nations Fashion + Design runway presented the hottest First Nations talent from Australia, with pieces from designers including Gammin Threads, Ihraa Swim, and Miimi and Jiinda.
Ludovic de Saint Sernin Exits Ann Demeulemeester
It’s only been one season, but Ludovic de Saint Sernin is leaving Ann Demeulemeester. The Belgian designer joined as creative director in December 2002, releasing the first collection in March this year. However, differences between de Saint Dermin and the brand’s management have arisen following the debut collection, as per BoF.
Angelina Jolie Launches Fashion Business
Angelina Jolie is entering the fashion industry. The actress and activist announced she is working on Atelier Jolie, a collaborative and sustainable fashion collective. According to the announcement, the venture will be a “place for creative people” to work alongside a “skilled and diverse family of expert tailors, pattern makers, and artisans from around the world”, using dead stock and garments that are destined for the landfill.
“[Atelier Jolie] stems from my appreciation and deep respect for the many tailors and makers I’ve worked with over the years, a desire to make use of the high-quality vintage material and deadstock fabric already available, and also to be part of a movement to cultivate more self-expression,” Jolie said in a statement.
Rhuigi Villaseñor Leaves Bally
Ruining Villaseñor and Bally are departing ways after two collections, with no successor confirmed. After less than two years, the designer is stepping down as creative director – a “joint and mutual decision”, the fashion house shared. When he was appointed, Bally was without a creative director for five years, saying goodbye to Pablo Coppola in 2017.
“My experience at Bally has been an incredible honor,” Villaseñor said. “I wish the brand nothing but the best in all its future endeavors and look forward to enjoying its next creative chapter.” The Swiss label’s design studio will present its FW collection in September during Milan Fashion Week.
